WELCOME

t

to the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Educational Association's website. I would like to begin by saying that it is an honor to serve as your President. I am grateful to all of the individuals in this organization who continue to work, devote their time, and lend to the vision to make the SCWCEA the strong, successful association it is today.  The Board and staff hope your plans include participation in our many educational programs.

The nature of handling workers' compensation cases is changing for all of us. The nature of teaching and learning is evolving. Society itself is changing at an unprecedented rate.   It's hard to predict what effect these changes will have on our futures.

Now more than ever, it is time to be innovative.  We need to do it better, quicker and in a more cost-effective manner.  The SCWCEA will continue to educate workers' comp professionals for challenges we are experiencing and to prepare for those we don't know exist yet.  It is vital that as this new normal unfolds, we work together more effectively, share insights more broadly, and face our challenges more cohesively.  By doing this, we will be better able to serve our clients with relevant knowledge and treatments that improve their lives.

We hope you were able to join us throughout 2023.   Our Medical Seminar was held February 26 & 27 at The Westin Poinsett in Greenville, SC with a focus on Overcoming Obstacles in Workers' Comp.   Our 2023 One Day Seminar will be held Friday, May 19th at the Cooperative Conference Center in Columbia.  This year's theme is We Can Do This:  Managing Stress in Workers' Compensation.  This day long meeting will provide you with a wealth of valuable information.  Our Annual Educational Conference on Workers' Compensation will continue to be the highlight of the year.  This in-person event, November, 2023, will be held at Embassy Suites at Kingston Resort in Myrtle Beach.   The program agenda, registration, and booths will be available this summer.   We have reduced the schedule to this fall by beginning sessions on Sunday afternoon and concluding Tuesday afternoon.  The conference committee will provide a good mixture of topics to cover all workers' compensation professions.  We encourage you to continue to remain active with the SCWCEA and participate in our programs.  Mark your calendar and plan to join us!

The SCWCEA is excited to announce Alexa Stillwell as our new Executive Director.  Alexa began on January 1st and is  available to address any questions or concerns about membership, costs, registration, credits and more.

I look forward to hearing from the membership and seeing you all at future programs.  Please stay safe and be well.

Best Regards,

Grady L. Beard, Esq.,

Attorney, Robinson Gray Stepp & Laffitte, LLC
